Barbara Baum is one of the most renowned costume designers in Germany. She has been designing costumes for international and national productions for almost 50 years. She has worked particularly closely with Rainer Werner Fassbinder, among others for THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN (FRG 1978), LILI MARLEEN (FRG 1980), LOLA (FRG 1981) and QUERELLE (FRG 1982). She also designed costumes for opulent TV films such as CATHERINE THE GREAT (DE/US 1994-96) or BUDDENBROOKS (DE 2007/08). In her many years of creative work, Baum has dressed stars such as Meryl Streep, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jeanne Moreau and Burt Lancaster. She has received numerous national and international awards for her work, most recently the “Honorary Lola” at the German Film Awards in 2015.
Barbara Baum has an extraordinary sense for fabrics. They are not only her working material, but also a source of inspiration.
„I always think in terms of fabrics. I even get goose bumps over exceptional fabrics! For me, the decision to use this or that very specific fabric is usually already half the costume.” (Barbara Baum)
